Dreaming lovers, seductive women and color-drenched landscapes beckon you to enter a world where the fantastic and the everyday mingle in a wonderful flight of fancy - the art of Gabriele Perici.

Early Artistic Passion

Gabriele, known to his friends by the nickname, Perici, was born in New York City in August, 1965, into a lively Italian community. When he was 11, his family returned to Italy, a rich and vibrant environment which cultivated his already developing artistic passion.

As a child, he was fascinated by colors, shadows and shapes. He found himself drawing faces and bodies, especially expressive eyes. He always had the urge to communicate with color using brushes, pencils or whatever medium he could. Gabriele says simply, "How did I get into the field of art? I was born into it."

Early on, without Gabriele's knowledge, his uncle submitted his drawings to a contest held by a major Italian newspaper. "To my big surprise, I won the contest and I think I made about $200.00. I was nine years old."

Learning Under the Eye of the Masters

But Gabriele was not content to get by on his natural talent. He diligently studied the techniques of the world's greatest painters, many, of course, being Italian, and studied at Rome University and the Art Institute in Rome, among the finest schools in the city. He also studied to be a movie director, learning cinematic visual skills and techniques. Although he has painted using diverse mediums, he now prefers acrylics.

Following Influences from the Heart

Gabriele's Italian heritage is possibly the most powerful influence in his work. "Italy is a country where everything is done with art: the food, the clothes, the wine. This kindles my passion, and I put all my passion into what I do."

As for other painters, Gabriele cites Modigliani, Picasso, Otto Dix, Max Ernst and Juan Gris as being very influential. But he also notes strongly that his most enduring influence comes from within himself. "When I was in the art school, one teacher looked at my work and asked me: 'Why do you paint Modigliani?' I answered, 'Who is Modigliani?', because I didn't know who he was. People also have related me to Dalí. Who knows - possibly in my subconscious I exchange things with them, but, ultimately, I believe that I have moved away from other influences and have developed my own style.

"My work is directed toward people that have a passionate nature, that have strong feelings and that experience the power of love. They can understand the feelings that are captured in the paint and canvas.

"And what I want to accomplish with my art is to give people a view to a better world and strength to overcome the challenges of life. I see my role as an artist to stand up and share what is in my heart with my fellow human beings."

Surrealism and His Purpose in Life

Gabriele has embraced Contemporary Surrealism philosophically as well as stylistically. "We all see life from different perspectives, in different forms. I have to confess, particularly, that I don't care about reality so much. In truth, surrealism is everywhere. But society demands conforming to an ideal reality and doesn't allow people to recognize and communicate other realities that they might have inside. When someone says what they feel, if it is out of the normal range, they are considered funny, crazy or not well adjusted. I think it's terrible to not be ourselves for fear of social constraints.

"I think that we have to be authentic - first with ourselves and then with others, without judging anyone. You came to earth for something. I know I came to earth to paint: it's my mission. Someone else has the mission to construct buildings or planes; to paint, and the life that is created from that, is a big thing for me. When I'm painting, the image emerges as if it has a life of its own, like a sculpture hiding in a stone, waiting for someone to carve away the excess pieces. Sometimes I think artists are like mediums."

Connecting Up with Fine Art Registry®

A friend introduced Gabriele to the Fine Art Registry® patented tagging and registration system. He found it to be a great tool and began tagging his work right away. So far, he has tagged and registered 40 pieces, including original paintings and giclée reproductions.

"The tagging process has helped me to add value to all my artwork. The seal and Certificate of Authenticity that now go with all of my new sales have more impact on people. There are many individual reasons to own a work of art and an increase of investment certainty is one of them. For that type of buyer, the tagging and registration system is essential. It tracks all the artwork of a specific artist and the sale price of each painting, making the process of estimating value much easier and, along with the Certificate of Authenticity, makes the whole process transparent. I see that as a new trend during the coming decades."

Gaining Exposure for his Work

Gabriele has enjoyed sales of his work all his life and has sold dozens of pieces all over the world. And his future is looking very bright. This year alone, he has had several exhibitions of his work, including a very successful one at the United Nations in April, and has many more scheduled for 2010.

He has just launched a very stylish new website which showcases his work in a beautifully designed online portfolio which you can visit here: www.gabrieleperici.com. This gives him a dynamic web presence with which to reach more people worldwide with his work.

Says Gabriele, "I feel blessed for what I have and how I live. I'm in a very happy point in my career, full of tension and movement. I'm feeling very creative and I'm meeting wonderful people. Everything is happening on its own. Everything is good and I just have to concentrate on continuing to paint. I think that everything comes at the right moment."

And we at Fine Art Registry look forward being a part of his journey. Visit Gabriele's FAR gallery and his new website here!
