Victim of Dali forgeries files Ethics Complaint against
Bernard Ewell with American Society of Appraisers

A formal ethics complaint was just lodged with Mr. Don Bretthauer, Executive Vice President of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) against the "Dali Detective" (aka Bernard Ewell) for his role in the authentication of Dali prints which have been declared by recognized authorities as forgeries. The Dali prints were sold on a cruise ship by the self-proclaimed largest art gallery in the world. Ewell worked for the art gallery authenticating Dali prints for more than a decade... If she had produced only her 1970s Untitled Film Stills series, photographer Cindy Sherman would have secured a place in the history of contemporary art. But Sherman, 57, has been making galvanizing images, and disappearing into them as her own shape-shifting model, ever since. In February, the Museum of Modern Art is mounting a full retrospective, with more than 180 works spanning her career and a large new photomural showing her subtle hand with current Photoshop technology. "She's a pioneer in many ways," says curator Eva Respini, who organized the show, "particularly thinking about identity as fluid, and photography's role in that." MoMA exhibit details
