From the Editors
Boy have we got news for you! We wanted to introduce some new writers and let you know what FAR members are doing. In the background, the web site is getting a total rework and you will see the benefits. Read on.
The EditorsFine Art Registry Hiring the Cream of the Crop of Writers by the Editors In our newsletters and website articles and columns we are really trying to bring you useful material that you won’t find elsewhere. To this end we would like to introduce two new writers–both heavy hitters though in very different ways–who will be steady contributors.
Cork MarcheschiCork Marcheschi is a San Francisco native who has been involved in the fine arts and music scene for over 40 years. He has taught sculpture, critical studies and art history at the University of California at Berkley, the San Francisco Art Institute and the Minneapolis College of Art. He has had over 130 solo art exhibitions throughout the world. He has 50 public sculptures littered about the American landscape He has collected and studied Art Deco and Art American and European Art pottery for 35 years. There are several things about Cork that make his voice so welcome on the FAR webiste. For one, he is a highly accomplished and successful artist himself. He has made a living through his art all of his life and he is PROLIFIC. He has projects going on around the country right now–big ones! He is also a dedicated collector. He has lived in the world of art in America and Europe and also Asia for a long time and he has been there and seen it and done it. When it comes to the “sacred cows” of art, Cork is quite willing to slaughter and butcher them and make an excellent meal of them. He has no vested interest. And Cork is a teacher–a really good teacher–of art. You will want to learn from him. Read Cork’s first FAR article: Guilty Pleasure. Cork is at the tail end of production of a book on the Fauré studio in Limoges, France. This studio, not well known, has turned out some of the most amazing Art Deco vases you will ever see. More of this later. His artwork is visible on his website: www.corkmarcheschi.com. Anayat Durrani
Anayat Durrani is an L.A.-based international freelance journalist with 10 years of professional experience. She is a versatile writer who has been widely published worldwide in magazines, newspapers, journals, and online. She holds a special Masters degree in Journalism and International Relations. Some of the publications she has written for include Al-Ahram Weekly, P.I. Magazine, Verdugo Monthly magazine, Lawcrossing.com.That’s the bit we’re supposed to say. The truth is that Anayat is a very sharp, perceptive and incisive terrier of a journalist who will get to the bottom of any story and tell it like it is. Woe betide anyone who has anything to hide (and in this ethical, orderly, straight field of art who does, right?) because Anayat will not take ”No comment” for an answer. She will get the truth and report it. And you, the reader, will benefit. We are very proud to welcome Anayat to the stable of freelancers writing for FAR and know that her journalistic skills will result in very valuable material for you, our readers. You can read Anayat’s first article for the Fine Art Registry, Art Crime, Shining Light on a Serious Problem here. This is the first of a series of articles on the current world situation with art crime. But that’s not all she will write about. Read her articles and feel free to contact her about them. |
